Bay Area singer-songwriter, Zoe FitzGerald Carter's latest album, Before the Machine, dropped on June 7, 2024. The album weaves a rich fabric of folk, rock, blues and jazz and features a stellar cast of top Bay Area musicians. Inspired by memories of a pre-smart phone world, the title track explores how technology, and specifically smart phones, has changed our experience of time. Most of us live "in the machine,” but there was another world not so long ago: the world before the machine.

Before The Machine Is OUT!

I’m happy to announce that the album I've been talking and posting about for months is finally available. You can order a real live CD (or digital download) on Bandcamp or find it on your favorite Streaming Platform.

Writing and recording these songs was a joy and I will be forever grateful to the many generous, talented musicians who helped bring these songs to life. Big thanks to my producer, Jeffrey Wood, for his support and creativity and for making me laugh, and to the many wonderful people in my musical community in the Bay Area. You are a gift and an inspiration.🌷

I’ll be at Hotel Utah in San Francisco this Saturday night, November 23! Showtime 8:30. Full band and a new Holiday Song. 🎸🌺 Tickets here

Starlight Blue

"Zoe manages to preserve the tone of a mesmerizing lullaby throughout, carried by a haunting western atmosphere, that suggests the elusiveness of the people in power and the total agency they hold over young women." – Hannah Means-Shannon on Wildfire
